Elizabeth Lazebnik was born in Latvia. Before they settled in Canada 20 years ago, her family lived in a number of countries – leaving her with the ability to communicate in four languages. In her professional life, Elizabeth has made over 10 films and has premiered some of them at such notable festivals as the Toronto International Film Festival, Festival du nouveau cinéma and the Toronto LGBT Film Festival (hosted by Inside Out). Her work has received awards and/or grants from the Female Eye Film Festival, Hot Docs, the National Film Board of Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and Toronto Arts Council. In 2015, Elizabeth completed her Master of Fine Arts degree in film and media production at York University. More recently, she won the 2017 K.M. Hunter Artist Award in Media Arts.
